Decluttering–The Quick Avenue to a Healthier Home

Updated: Aug 21, 2023

Ah, here comes Spring, and with its near-annual expectant duties: Spring Cleaning and the beginning of the decluttering/tidying process!

Let's check out some of the reasons why a deep, spring cleaning is so pertinent:

A Multitude of Benefits!

Less clutter, for starters, makes it a heck of a lot easier to clean your home. (Hence why decluttering is a Client Prerequisite for a professional Gleam Team Cleaning Co. visit).

All the things you no longer need or use or want is just sitting there, a giant collect-all for grime and dust accumulation. If you take no steps to stop this, it piles up over short periods of time to such an extreme extent that it becomes difficult to clean under, around and over it without a great deal of effort.

Although decluttering gives people opportunity to do a thorough cleaning while advancing- don't worry too much about shining during the decluttering process.

Cleaning as you go can slow you down and/or distract you from achieving the present goal: de-cluttering. The cleaning process simply goes much more quickly and effectively once the clutter is cut from the team.

Here are a handful of techniques that can be utilized in anything you ever do, especially in decluttering!

  • Think before acting.

  • Discard and sort (as soon as possible).

  • Group.

  • Be motion minded (an awareness and efficient use of one's hands).

  • Proactive preventative maintenance.

  • Use your accrued benefits.

  • ***Give yourself permission to give away these things that no longer suit your taste or lifestyle.

The Hardest Part: Getting Started

Here are a few tips to get you started:

* Make and commit to a decluttering appointment with yourself.

* Declutter one shelf, one drawer, or small are until you’re done.

* Set and accomplish simple, daily goals.

It is officially time for ACTION:

A- Access your situation.

C- Commit to change.

T- Tackle an area at a time.

I- Initiate your wicked-awesome skills to navigate and straighten up your messes!

O- Overcome doubtful attitudes and behaviors that do NOT lead to success.

N- Now, kick back, relax–you’ll need the energy later for the Clean Storm that’s to come–or simply book today with The Gleam Team Cleaning Co. or your local most professional cleaning services!

5 Sorting Categories

Here are Five Categories that Your Clutter Can be Sorted Into:

  1. Things you love and/or use frequently.

  2. Things you could give away.

  3. Things belonging in the trash.

  4. Things you could sell.

  5. Things that belong elsewhere (to-be-determined-pile)

and a bonus #6.

“Lost and Found” -once you’ve finished decluttering and putting away, go through this final box to see whether you’re now able to find a home-discard any junk.

Letting Go

For many folks, decluttering can be downright scary and uncomfortable, because it means letting go of things that have become a part of their lives. (Surely, we are all guilty of this one!).

*It helps to keep this in mind: the most important “stuff” of life is most definitely not material things. It is the moments, the time spent, the love and gratitude expressed by things (living or inanimate). [Express this idea further here]

Reluctancy To Let Go

If you’re reluctant to let go of things, there are two points to start with:

*Correcting your housework perspective can be easier than you may think.

Especially starting with the easy stuff.

First, what you need to do is to put house cleaning in its proper perspective: view it as a tool to help you get where you want. Don’t visualize yourself as a dismal failure–instead, visualize yourself lying down every night with a peaceful feeling, knowing your work has been done well. You awaken to a house that is in order.

You can easily become a happier, more cheerful you. How? Keep the vision of the “got-my-sh*t-togetherness” you in your mind. You have to see yourself succeeding before you ever will. If your mind has a positive goal, your body will follow right along.

However, as long as you have a negative goal, you will continue to drift along in a negative manner. The old axiom, “accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative,” really pays off in the long run.

Throw real, actual trash away–just let go of it!

***[Start substituting action for explanation]

No matter how hard you think you have it, there is someone out there worse off than you are who’s managing to overcome their trials. Excuses are retarding. They keep you from reaching the full potential of your dreams.

So, dump your excuses. You have so much to gain by reaching for your new vision!

Keep in mind: [the ultimate purpose of organizing your home and life is to give you time for more important things. On the road to free time, you will begin to notice many hidden benefits resulting from your organizational pursuits. You’ll likely begin to feel a sense of self-confidence and control over your surroundings. You’ll get to feel the exhilaration of finishing tasks that you start. Also, when you begin to seek better, faster ways to do your work, you’ll discover mental challenges that’ll add new zest to any job.
